INCITE INTENSIVE

The INCITE Intensive is our curated professional development program for mid-career and established artists, taking place in Eora/Sydney each year. Led by Artistic Director, Danielle Micich, the Intensive offers an invaluable deep-dive into personal practice, multidisciplinary collaboration and how to harness dramaturgy in movement-based devising.

Brand New Format in 2024

This year, the INCITE Intensive will run as two independent single-week programs. More accessible than ever before, this model requires artists to take less time away from work and life and is a more affordable price point - and we can take twice the number of artists. More information and how to apply below.

Background
With decades of experience as a maker, performer and mentor, Danielle Micich has spent years developing and refining the INCITE Intensive. The program provides multi-disciplinary artists with the requisite tools to maintain their practice and hone their creation process as makers of movement-based theatre. Designed for mid-career and established artists, the program prepares them, physically and mentally, with an understanding of how to work within the art form of devised, movement-based storytelling.

The Program
The small group intensive will focus on three key components in the process of devising dance theatre: physical practice, movement generation and creation.

Physical Practice
Physical practice will incorporate simple and effective exercises that demonstrate how to work with the breath and the moving body. It combines skills for actors and dancers, in addition to artists working across multiple disciplines. The training improves performer focus, body awareness and prepares the performer for the ‘ready body’; a concept created by Danielle Micich.

Movement Generation
Structured improvisation sessions will explore everything from how to talk about movement, to how to generate movement with text and the dramaturgy around this. Participants will delve into the very intention and purpose of movement with narrative, improvising through partner and ensemble work and collaborating as a collective multi-disciplinary company.

Creation
Over the course of INCITE Intensive, each participant will become part of a company structure. Danielle Micich will demonstrate how to work collaboratively on the creation of new ideas using shared language and how to make constructive decisions in the creative process of devising new work.
