About

FORCE MAJEURE

Force Majeure creates contemporary performances grounded in hip hop culture and street dance styles.  It nurtures choreographic practice through mentorships, labs and performance platforms.

Artist led, the company is embedded in the Australian street dance community through its Artistic Director Nick Power.

With home bases in Newcastle and Sydney and strong links to the Pacific through ongoing projects in Vanuatu and New Caledonia, Force Majeure brings a long term, community driven vision to all its projects.

OUR VALUES

Empowerment of Individuality
We champion each artist’s authentic voice, meeting people where they are and encouraging work that is true to their vision.

Courage to Confront
We encourage challenging the social norms. We provoke meaningful conversations and reveal untold stories.

Commitment to Connection and Inclusion
We believe in the power of listening and staying engaged. We value collaboration across disciplines, celebrating differences to build shared understanding and a unified vision. We work with respect and safety always at the forefront.

Respect for First Nations
We hold space for First Nations artists to create and grow, honouring their voices, knowledge and cultural heritage.

THE FORCE EFFECT

The Force Effect is a 2024 survey conducted by Force Majeure to better understand our relationship with independent artists and assess our broader impact on the arts sector during Danielle Micich’s 10 year tenure as Artistic Director. Over 90 participants—including INCITE Alumni, collaborators, and artists who have engaged with us through productions or workshops—shared their insights.

Force Majeure respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, seas, waterways and skies where we work and we pay our respect to Elders both past and present. We recognise that our office is located on Bidjigal and Kameygal Country. We are privileged to gather on this Country to share knowledge, culture, art and storytelling now, and with future generations.
